For school-age rowers registered on the Victorian Rowing Pathways.

Season 2017-18 has concluded and many of our young rowers are already looking at opportunities to develop a competitive edge prior to the commencement of Season 2018-19.  Your son or daughter, expressed an interest earlier this season in pursuing just such opportunities through the Victorian Rowing Pathways.

Currently, we have some Victorian Junior rowers trialing in Sydney to make the Australian Junior Team, we have others signing up to winter programs at clubs and still others being assisted in practical ways through our rowing support network. 

Rowing Victoria would like to gauge your interest, and that of your rower, in exploring one more opportunity designed to advance skills, establish meaningful rowing relationships and foster a keen commitment to rowing: Rowing Exchange to China for school-age rowers. 

After a recent visit from a Chinese rowing delegation, RV is well into negotiations with rowing representatives from the Sichuan Province in Southwest China to send a small group of school-age rowers from Victoria to Chengdu, Sichuan’s capital. 

Plans are evolving quickly and as such, RV would like to ascertain the interest amongst our Pathway rowers and their parents to participate. 

Trip Timing:                         Term 2 school holidays, 2018

Trip Duration:                     7 days

Numbers Attending:         10 Male, 10 Female Rowers, 1 supervising teacher/coach and 2 rowing coaches

Invitations Issued to:        Students that have registered an interest in Victorian Rowing Pathways (in the first instance)

Core Activities:                  Advanced on-water rowing technique training and physical preparation, cultural exchange  

Costs:                                  Self-funded; costs yet to be determined

Eligibility:                            Gender balance, current passport  - First come, first served, current

Please note that your response will not be a final commitment but it will indicate the feasibility of the proposal if we have enough real interest.  Consequently, Rowing Victoria will be well-placed to decide whether the trip can go ahead in an appropriate timeframe.
