2020/21 Regatta Structure Update

15/12/2020

After a turbulent commencement to the 2020/21 regatta season, rowing in Victoria is steadily returning to normal. With a number of successful regattas now behind us and COVID regulations continuing to ease, we can now look towards 2021 with a great deal of optimism.

What to expect in 2021

Small to Midsized Regattas.

The current Victorian Government regulations now permit 1000 people at a time to be present at community sporting events. This will fortunately allow the return of spectators, spectator marquees, commentary, and food vendors at Victorian regattas.

Density limits and COVID safe measure will remain in place to ensure the safety of the event and will need to be continually monitored as restrictions continue to ease.

Mid to Large Regattas.

For all events with participation and spectator levels between 1000-5000, Rowing Victoria has submitted Tier 2 COVIDSafe event applications with the Victorian Government and for events with over 5000 in attendance, Tier 1 applications have been submitted. It is possible these events will incorporate additional registration requirements, e.g. QR coding and that density limits within the large spectator marquees will need to meet hospitality density quotients.

Rowing Victoria is confident that these applications will be approved, allowing these wonderful events to be conducted as we have traditionally experienced. This includes the regattas which take place over multiple days incorporating large spectator marquees. It is anticipated that confirmation will be received from the Victorian Government by mid-January. At this time, we will again update the rowing community as to how these larger regattas will be structured.

Rowing Victoria’s priority remains to facilitate the running of safe and fair regattas for all participants.
