Rowing Victoria is the governing body for the sport of rowing in Victoria and is a not-for-profit, peak state body. Rowing Victoria creates opportunities for current and future rowers in Victoria to participate in rowing for life through the promotion, encouragement, and management of rowing in Victoria.

Rowing Victoria’s vision is Victorians enjoying rowing for life. The Mission is being a leading, sustainable rowing organization for community and performance:

·       Strengthen and support our clubs, schools and the community,

·       Lead and influence better outcomes for rowing in Victoria,

·       Deliver highly regards events, services and programs through effective and efficient operations, and

·       Foster strategic partnerships to grow and diversify funding for the sport.

Rowing Victoria is funded through membership fees, regatta events and grants. 

In 2023, Rowing Victoria had over 8,000 individual members actively participating with 47 Clubs and 50 school members.

 

Rowing Victoria Board

The Rowing Victoria Board consists of six Directors including the Chair who are elected by the members at the Annual General Meeting. The Board can also appoint up to two Directors having regard to the mix of gender, skills and experience. It is a voluntary position.

The Board meets 11 times a year on the 3rd Thursday of each month and occasionally otherwise, as required.

 

Director Role

Rowing Victoria is seeking to appoint a Director with a combination of attributes. We are seeking candidates with the following specific knowledge and experience in the sport of rowing:

·       School rowing, and/or

·       Elite rowing.

In addition to this, the other attributes sought include but are not limited to:

 

·       Director Experience:  Experience as an Independent or Non Executive Director in a similar environment or sport sector with demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the role of a Director as well as the legal, ethical, fiduciary and financial responsibilities. 

·       Strategic Expertise: Demonstrated ability to review strategy through constructive questioning and contribute to effective decision making by the Board.

·       Stakeholder Engagement and Management: In-depth understanding and experience in engaging and developing productive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and, in particular, government relations.

·       Corporate Governance: A thorough understanding and acceptance of the principles of good corporate governance in the context of a member based not-for-profit organisation.

·       Innovation:  Demonstrated track record in fostering, promoting and supporting innovation within organizations.

·       Accounting and Finance: Sound understanding and experience in financial management and accounting. 

·       Risk Management:  Proven experience in managing risk and understanding the impact of risk on business operations.

·       Technology: A sound understanding of technology and emerging trends and implications for the sport industry.

·       Managing People and Implementing Change: Relevant experience in managing people including implementing change and an understanding of modern Human Resources practices.

·       Legal: An appreciation of legal and legislative requirements is desirable.
