Rowing Victoria Enews 27th August 2021

Congratulations and Thank you

Earlier this week, the RV initiated, Dept of Sport and Rec funded Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) training sessions wrapped up.

Through the State, our community now has an additional 67 fully accredited MPIOs. An amazing response, show of strength and fillip for our community.

The course facilitator, VICSPORT, the Dept of Sport and Rec and our legal support are amazed and congratulatory with this result and have all stated that they are unaware of any other State sporting Organisation that that has both instigated and received such a positive result in working to ensure their sport is safe, fair and inclusive for all its members.

Engagement through the sessions and feedback received to date has been extremely positive with a few wishing they had MPIOs in their clubs sooner as many concerns would not have festered to become issues….

RV will now continue to provide support and develop/ update resources for all members regarding the communication, development and maintenance of safe, fair and inclusive club environments.

We now have large, state-wide community of MPIOs who can lean on each other for support if met with challenges regarding Member Protection issues. Please reach out to your club and thank your volunteer MPIO for taking on this role.

In addition to our pool of Umpires, boat drivers, coaches, club administrators, commission members, board etc, this result highlights the strength and commitment to our sport of our volunteer community.

For those who are still wanting to become an MPIO, please reach out to the office as there are some further sessions planned for later in the year.

Paralympics  - PR3 Mixed Coxed Four

The Australian PR3 Mixed Coxed Four had their first race at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics getting underway at the Sea Forrest Waterway at 12:30pm today. The Australian crew made up of Alex Viney (Mercantile Rowing Club), Nikki Ayers (Capital Lakes Rowing Club), James Talbot (Sydney University Boat Club), Tom Birtwhistle (UTS Boat Club) and cox Renae Domaschenz (ANU Boat Club). This crew continues to improve with each row after having had limited time to training together due to the pandemic. The Aussie crew was placed in a heat along side one of the favourites in the USA. Both Australia, USA and Israel all got out to a fast start. Australia was able to hold their second place all the way down the course. USA was first, Australia second , Israel third, Canada fourth, Ukraine fifth and Spain in sixth. First place progressed to the A Final with the rest going through to the repechage to be raced tomorrow around 12:30 pm AEST. Good luck to Alex, Nikki, James and Tom racing in the repechage tomorrow. We will be cheering you all on.

VICTORIAN LED INDOOR ROWING INITIATIVE

As was their strength during their competitive rowing careers, former Olympians Matt Ryan and Christian Ryan’s timing is again impeccable.

Matt and Christian have founded and recently launched Rowhaus; a new indoor rowing initiative that currently consists of online indoor ergo training sessions led by elite athletes and coaches who guide, support and drive participants in meeting and/ or breaking their own goals.

During these times when we can’t get to the club or water, Rowhaus is ideal as it provides plenty of online training options all led by former Olympians, World Championship representatives and High Performance coaches, providing the physical and mental benefits of rowing that we know, whilst helping with technique support and motivation along the way.

The group classes or 1:1 sessions are perfectly suited for anyone of any age or skill level interested in improving those fitness and skills, train for the upcoming school, club, elite or masters season, or even just lose a few Covid Ks. Elite coaching is now available for all; not just the AIS Categorised athletes in Melbourne, but Students, Clubbies and Masters throughout the state (and country).

Head to www.rowhaus.com.au where you’ll find a Rowhaus workout for you, whatever your body type, fitness or experience level.
